I got an email yesterday asking me if MRE is dead. For the record MRE is still in development but I have taken a break from it to focus other parts of my life (besides tech). Here's an update for those interested. I've re-written MRE in .NET 2.0, made some interface tweaks, added s ...

Thanks for all the questions and suggestions regarding Mobile Registry
Editor, it's nice to see that MRE users have a healthy dose of curiosity. To
date I've tried to answer questions individually but with all the work
piling up at my day job (yeah I have one) I haven't been able to email
everyone back. Going forward I'll try to address the que ...

Until last night I still had one minor gripe with Firefox. Its
bookmarks menu cuts off the title of my bookmarks when the title
greater than 48 characters. I have a lot of bookmarks, probably too
many, and lots with more than 60 characters in the title. In FF these
appear cut off making it hard to understand where the bookmark goes. IE
does th ...

Over the past month I have received a lot reports that MRE does not
work with phones from Orange such as the C500 and E200. After a bit of
research and help from a few of you I found that the problem is Orange.
They have decided that users should not be able to remotely edit the
registry or for that matter install applications that have not bee ...

VS.NET 2003 is amazing but not without its faults. Those that spend a good part of their day using the designer are all to familiar with the InitializeCoponent bug in ASP.NET and the infamous disappearing controls bug in Windows Forms (which still happens even with the hotfix). Both of the bug ...

Yet another ActiveSync issue! Turns out rebooting the computer running ActiveSync resets the serial port to COM1. Meaning every time I reboot I have to open up ActiveSync connection settings and set the serial connection to use COM4. Thankfully there is a fix.
Point your favorite registry editor to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software \Microsoft\W ...

If you want to setup your AT&T phone as a modem you need look no further than your owner's manual. In fact page 100 reveals exactly how much information you can expect to find on this topic. None. Audiovox was kind enough to put a section in their manual about using your phone as a modem but forgot to actually put anything in it! There is howev ...

As I see it there are two distinct camps regarding this topic. There are those that could care less what method is used as long as it's consistent and used across the board. Then there are those that believe their way of doing things is so infallibly correct that all who dare oppose them should be doused in flaming feces.
Thankfully, I'v ...

After RIS (Remote Installation Services) is setup and deploying images
at your whim, it's time to start configuring it. Since RIS has no
interface most of the customizing is done via config files (text files
with .SIF tacked on the end). Hm.. Whatever happened to
naming config files with .INI? I guess the developers thought
Setup Ins ...
